Opening a US business bank account as a non-US founder

You no longer need to fly to New York. What banks ask for, and how to avoid the most common refusal.

What every bank asks for

  • The certificate of incorporation or formation.
  • The EIN confirmation letter from the IRS.
  • Bylaws or operating agreement showing who owns and controls the company.
  • A passport for each owner of 25% or more and each person who controls the company.
  • A clear description of what the company sells and where its customers are.

Online banks and traditional banks

Several US banks and fintech platforms open business accounts fully online for founders outside the US. Your formation partner offers one at the end of formation. Traditional banks often still ask for an in-person visit. Compare fees for international wires and card spend, since you will use both.

Why applications get refused

The most common reason is a vague business description. "Consulting" or "e-commerce" with no detail looks risky to a compliance team. Say what you sell, to whom, in which countries, and roughly how much money you expect to move each month. The second most common reason is a business in a restricted category, which is why Titan checks that before formation.

Connect it to Ultraner

Once the account is open, add it to your Ultraner business under Settlements. Payments you collect from customers across Ultraner's African markets then settle to it in dollars.
